In my 10 months on ownership I have learned that if your car isn’t lowered to the point of unusability with wheels so rare they are on the endangered list, no one will talk with you.

I have taken my car to several C&C events, parked with the other VW cars, and not a single person has even said so much as, “Hi.”.

I have a 16 GTI SE with the Performance package and the S trim cloth seats. One would think that impossible combo would illicit some reaction.

Nothing.

Depends on region and city. I have the A3 3.2 which is more or less an R32 in disguise. Only have Unitronic tune and Pipercross filter. At some cars and Coffees I have people talk to me about it and others not so much as a look. It hasn’t even mattered if it was an all VAG event or not. Its so random I can’t figure it out. I think if I get exhaust work and its sounds more “VR6" I’ll get more attention. Its just too weird.

Nice. It’ll need a water pump and thermostat prematurely, maybe an intake manifold because the variable runner mechanism is crap, but they seem pretty good thus far. Be ready for oil consumption, most of them use at least a couple of quarts between services depending on how you drive. The vacuum pumps leak commonly as well, which can be spendy. Both the first and second gen 2.0Ts have proven to be fairly stout engines, it’s all the plastic BS bolted to them that dies. The DSG needs to be serviced every 40k, this is very important. As to the rest of the car, expect the usual window regulators, maybe a dead radio, pixellated instrument cluster info display, annoying plastic trim problems over time, etc. Not a bad car though, honestly. Not a Camry, but not bad, and a nicer place to be. I’d put my family in one.

Yep, but it’s not just VW doing shit like that now. Less weight and production cost, plus planned obsolescence=plastic. Some do it better than others, though.
